What We’ll Talk About at Bits Health

Welcome to Bits Health.

In this blog we’ll cover consumer tools that allow people to take control of their health. The focus will be on websites, apps, and devices that are both useful and easy to use. Simple; like Netflix simple.

I feel like we’re on the earliest edge of a revolution in healthcare where each of us can be empowered to manage our health.

Why now?

The bits health revolution is being driven by the same forces as other revolutions online. Ubiquitous internet, design-focused web and mobile apps, more powerful and elegant devices, and widespread acceptance of online social networks.

Also,  there’s been a steady movement from intuitive to precision medicine. This concept from Clayton Christensen’s book The Innovator’s Prescription. In the past, most medicine required highly skilled (and specialized) practitioners because it was still an intuitive undertaking. In 1915, you couldn’t treat your own diabetes because no one really knew what diabetes was. Today, people with Type 1 Diabetes manage their ailment by measuring glucose levels at home with an electronic device and self-administer insulin.

Medicine continues to move more and more illnesses from the Intuitive category to the Precision category which opens up opportunities for IT driven solutions to managing care.

Follow on Twitter and we’ll wade through this together. If you’re leading a company in the bits health space and would like to be featured, please email me [bitshealth (~@~) gmail]
